Manilal
Weerakooon’s association with the SOSL commenced in 1972
when he joined the Junior Orchestra as a horn-player,
under the direction of Carmel Raffel. The following
year, he joined the horn section of the Symphony
Orchestra, and was the regular head of the horn
section, until 2011.
An alumnus of St. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, he
acknowledges a significant influence on his musical
education by his association with the former College
organist, Russell Bartholomeusz.
He retired in 2011.
