December 15th2019: The SOSL takes the stage for one of the most popular musical events of the Holiday Season—the SOSL Family Christmas Concert. This year’s concert is directed by Dushyanthi Perera, under whose baton the orchestra has given some thrilling performances. Joining the SOSL is ALYE PARUSA—an award-winning children’s choir from Russia, as well as Sri Lankan favourites Soul Sounds and The Old Joes Choir.
‘Alye Parusa,’ directed by Elena Volodina will perform a set of inspiring choral works, including the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Verdi’s Nabucco and “To fly on the wings of the wind” –the evergreen theme from Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances.
The Soul sounds and Old Joes choirs will perform a number of captivating choral works ranging from traditional to contemporary. Among the pieces being performed are three joyful songs from the movie “Home Alone” featuring both Alye Parusa and the Soul Sounds Childrens choir, and an exciting new arrangement of that Christmas classic, “O Come all Ye Faithful.”
Franz Von Suppe’s Light Cavalry Overture will herald the start of the concert, after which the orchestra will gallop through some wonderful holiday music, including an unforgettable medley based on “Star of Wonder” and a fresh and beautiful interpretation of Bach’s “Sheep may safely graze.” The Orchestra will also be performing a modern take on the Carol of the Bells entitled “Chirstmas Eve: Sarajevo 12/24”
